Year 8 Visual Arts
Throughout the Year 8 Visual Arts course, students explore two key topics including Imaginary Worlds and Skulls and Bones and create artworks inspired by these themes.
The Imaginary Worlds topic enables students to develop imaginative thinking skills and apply them to a range of tasks. Students learn to bring imaginative and original ideas to life through artmaking and investigate how artists represent the imaginary and their inner worlds.
The Skulls and Bones topic sees students create a range of artworks inspired by ancient culture and contemporary techniques. Students begin to understand the symbolism of the skull, what meaning it conveys, and why artists have continued to explore its form throughout art history.

Exquisite Corpse

The Exquisite corpse is a Surrealist drawing game that involves participants taking turns drawing sections of a body on a sheet of paper, folded to hide each individual contribution.
The first player adds a head—then, without knowing what that head looks like, the next artist adds a torso, and so on. In this way, a strange, comical, often grotesque creature is born.

Surreal Bedroom Illustration
Inspired by Rene Magritte’s artwork, Personal Values... students were required to create a detailed surreal drawing using scale to distort and exaggerate the size and contents of objects found in a room.
