Year 8 Music
In Year 8, students complete a semester of Music with two different topics. The main instrumental focus for year 8 is the guitar.

Our first term we look at Music Now! where we get to learn and play contemporary pop and rock music.
In the second term, we get to a deep dive into Film Music, learning about its importance, and playing famous themes in a variety of contexts! Check out some of the fun and exciting things our students got up to below.
Film Music Rearranged
Some of our HPGE Year 8 students were asked to choose a piece of music from a film and create their own arrangement of the piece! Through the creation of their own arrangements, all of our students learnt how to play new instruments, structuring a song and using different instruments to change their tone colours! Have a listen to a few of our student’s songs!

Film Music Duets
Across Year 8, Film Music has been one of our favourite topics to study! Especially because we get to play some really fun duets on guitar and ukulele. This allowed us to learn how to play with other people, and the layering of melody and harmony layers. Check out our talented musicians playing some beautiful duets!

Music Now! is an extremely enjoyable topic that our students LOVE to do. It gives us all a chance to learn how to play guitar, drum kit, bass guitar and other popular instruments. Check out a few of our classes playing through an arrangement of Katrina and the Waves’s Walking on Sunshine which we were able to put on as a class.
