
Year 7 Visual Arts
Throughout 2022, Year 7 Visual Arts students have investigated the world as a source of ideas and inspiration and explored how artists can represent aspects of their world and communicate ideas through artmaking. The four key topics students have explored include; "The world of..." places and spaces, nature and animals, people and portraiture and objects.


Nature and Animals
As part of their exploration of nature and animals, Year 7 created a series of artworks across several different mediums to represent real and imagined animals and insects from the natural world.

People and Portraiture
During our unit exploring people and portraiture, students examined how people have been represented in art throughout history. Students began to understand the conventions of portraiture and engaged in numerous tasks designed to develop their ability to represent people effectively.

St Ives Archies

Every year, all Year 7 students participate in the St Ives Archies Portrait Competition. Much like the famous Archibald Prize, where well known artists paint a celebrity or notable person, the St Ives Archies involves students creating a portrait of one of their teachers.
The submissions were then voted for by the public visiting the St Ives High School Art Exhibition with honourable mentions are displayed at the St Ives High School Hall Entrance between 29th August - 2nd September 2022.












Objects
During our unit exploring objects, Students learned about the still-life genre and how objects often hold personal meaning and can be used as symbols with a work. Students experiment with form and technique, demonstrating their technical development and ability to refine artworks.

Places and Spaces
During this unit, students learned how to apply the elements of art through a range of media while investigating places and spaces. As a result, students gained confidence in practical skills and their ability to use the art elements as a visual language to "speak" to the audience.
