Year 7 Music

Year 7 Music is all about exploring the foundations of how Music works and having a go at learning an instrument. Throughout the year students explore rhythm, compose melodies and learn about the instruments of the Orchestra and Program music.
Feel the Beat
Music has a heartbeat and term one is all about rhythm! Students composed their own four bar rhythm and then combined it with three other students to create a layered polyrhythm! Groups performed using a range of untuned percussion instruments.

Hugh, Aaron, Zoe and Elina
While students were learning all about note values some students created some interesting word patterns to help them perform in time!

Jacob's Lolly themed rhythm

Tyler's Shrek themed rhythm
Quart-Ed Incursion
As part of their exploration of Orchestral instruments in term three, Year 7 Music classes were treated to a visit from some very special guest musicians. The string ensemble Quart-Ed ran an interactive incursion introducing students to the string family and performing a range of music from different genres.

Students heard pieces by Mozart, contemporary Australian composers, pop artists and even from films such as "How to Train your Dragon". The performers also demonstrated how instruments can reflect sounds that different animals and landscapes create, with students guessing creatures like mosquitoes, whales, seagulls and rabbits.

Applause Concert
After missing two years of live concerts at St Ives High, our yearly Soiree Music night was relaunched in Term 3 with the new title “Applause”. The students from our HPGE cohort performed a group rendition of "Lanterns" by the band Birds of Tokyo. Some students participated in the band while others sang! A big thank you to Mrs Andresson and Mr Togher for making this project come alive!

Instruments of the Orchestra
To kick off their unit on the Instruments of the orchestra classes explored vocal ensembles and combining singing with percussion sounds. Students participated in a composition competition to create the most interesting Incredibox song by using various loops.
A big congratulations to our finalists!
The main assessment task for this unit was a research project about an instrumental family. Students had to research and create an activity for another year 7 student to complete!
Have a look at some of their creations!
