Year 11 Music

Year 11 Music explores a wide range of musical genres, extends students with more advanced musical ideas and allows students to focus on their chosen instrument. The subject is split into two courses which have slightly different topic and skill areas.

Celtic Music

For their first assessment task students had to present an analysis of a chosen Celtic folk song and discuss the traditional characteristics presented.

Frankie produced a very detailed analysis of the Scottish love song "Tiree".

Students also explored the influence of Celtic Music on contemporary artists and sub-genres. â€‹

Course 1 then moved into exploring different types of musical notation. There was a lot of fun involving how sound could be graphically notated using symbols, pictures and colours. Below are some interesting interpretations of the musical score for a documentary on Penguins!

19th Century Music

To kick off our topic on the Romantic Period, students researched the 19th Century and created a social media profile including some key information including characteristics, composers, famous works and historical context.

In Term 3, we held our first "Applause" concert evening since returning to live events after COVID. The Year 11 combined class created and performed their own take on a 19th Century hit "Hall of the Mountain King" by Edvard Grieg.
