Still Life - Natural & Man made objects
Natural and man made objects was the theme for semester one. This included the study of the Vanitas theme, looking at the significance of special objects in our lives.
Year 9 Visual Arts
Year 9 Visual Arts is an elective course, where students study Visual Arts for five periods a cycle in year 9. With two classes of 24 students it has been a busy and productive year with everyone staying busy and engaged even when learning online.
Mixed Media Drawing
To further develop drawing skills students also worked on a mixed media drawing featuring vegetables and natural objects considering composition and layering a variety of materials.
Printmaking
Students undertook a printmaking project inspired by objects. One class explored linoprinting techniques, looking at the artist Margaret Preston and the natural world. The other class studied the artist Jim Dine, exploring man-made tools using a dry point etching technique.
Landscapes - Urban & Natural
During online learning, students created a coloured pencil miniature landscape exploring blending and layering techniques.
We then moved on to learn how to use 2 and 3 point perspective so our landscapes would look correct. This was challenging for some!
Moving on to a more abstract approach, students created an aerial, map-based drawing in ink and markers or a Surreal landscape inspired by Reg Mombassa.
3D forms
To finish the year students explored 3D forms, creating sgraffito ceramic pots and imaginary buildings in balsa, skewers, pine, string and natural logs.
