In this course, students are exposed to the practice and methodologies of Street artists in the form of individual and collaborative artworks, using the real world as a reference for their imagery. Their artworks will be exhibited in the community so students will develop an understanding of a contemporary audience.
Mural Project
Year 9 Street Art students have been learning skills involving drawing, stencilling and spray-painting to build upon their artmaking techniques. Mrs Skilton has worked alongside students in the creation of a mural inspired by Australian artist “Beastman” known for public murals that depict geometric landscapes and life forms.
Each student has contributed their own design, creating, cutting and spraying their own multi-layered stencils. The symbols and motifs seen on the mural represent species found on the grounds of St Ives High School eg. Angophora, Old Man Banksia, Grevilleas and Eucalyptus.
A huge thank you to Mrs Skilton and congratulations to all students for their very colourful fingerprint on our school which will be installed over the summer and the new location announced in 2022!
Stickers
Students designed an image or message of the form of a sticker. Their inspirations and references range from political, self-portrait, street-style branding to pop cultural references.
