Year 8 Photographic & Digital Media

Mechanical Madness

The Mechanical Madness task led students to develop their photo editing and Photoshop skills by composing a surreal scene using rearranged mechanical objects against an otherworldly background.

Our year 8 PDM students worked hard throughout this year to extend their practical skills and learn more about the art of photography.

Students worked on a range of tasks where they were required to stage and compose a variety of scenes, and capture and edit images.

A day in the life...

Inspired by artist Gonzalo W. Benard, students were encouraged to see the world differently by playfully arranging paper cut outs and silhouettes to interact with their personal environment. Students had lots of fun experimenting with how images can tell a story through selecting, editing and curating a triptych ( a three panelled photo series) of their own using the theme, “A day in the life of…”

Animation

Timeline Animation

Our students also worked to create not only still images but short films and animations...

When we moved to online learning throughout lockdown, we used our creatures from the previous task as a springboard for an at-home animation task. Choosing between the theme of either “hide and seek” or “the great escape”, students created an animation that featured their creature exploring and interacting with a scene from home.

Students used the Timeline feature in Photoshop to create animated videos, designing creatures and coming up with their own sound effects.

Soupe Opera

Another particularly fruitful animation…. was our Soupe Opéra task, where students worked in groups to create their own quirky stop motion animation using fruits and vegetables brought in from home! Check them out below!

Soupe Opéra - a French children's television programme that features fruits and vegetables turning themselves into different creatures and objects.
